2016 Sleepy Hollow Oktoberfest

We’re sure everyone’s heard of the town Sleepy Hollow from Washington Irving’s short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” and from the TV show that’s become popular over the past few years, based on Irving’s work, Sleepy Hollow. If you’re a fan of the show and haven’t figured it out yet, Sleepy Hollow is in fact a real town, located in New York. The town of Sleepy Hollow and its neighboring town Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow used to be called North Tarrytown) embrace their connection to Irving’s work that made the towns so famous by holding Halloween events all throughout October. The start of the towns’ fall activities commences with an Oktoberfest celebration in September. This year marks the Fifth Annual Oktoberfest in Sleepy Hollow.

Sleepy Hollow Oktoberfest

While the event may not be full of creepy ghosts and scary monsters, it’s a fun way to celebrate the beginning of the fall season and there’s lots of delicious eats to be had. There is one monster to seek after, though, if you attend the event: the Headless Horseman, of course! While he doesn’t make an actual appearance at this event (he does at other events in Sleepy Hollow, though!), you can find him on an Oktoberfest mug that you can purchase at the event. The beer mug is a coveted item that’s perfect to add to any Halloween collection, and certainly makes the entire event worth attending! Plus, since it’s in September, it’s a great way to have a mini Halloween celebration before October even arrives!

Make sure to come hungry and bring money to buy food, as vendors sell Oktoberfest related eats, like bratwurst, wiener schnitzels, pretzels, and beer. There’s also delicious deserts, like cookies and cupcakes. While beer is available, it’s an event that’s great for the entire family.
