Police ‘Completely Terrified’ To Discover ‘IT’ Red Balloons Tied To Sewer Grates In Small Town

The reboot of Stephen King’s IT is set to hit theaters Friday, September 8, 2017. Everyone seems a little on-edge concerning clowns with this latest remake; even the police. On Tuesday, Police in Lititz, Pennsylvania were unnerved to find red balloons tied to sewer grates around town. A red balloon is Pennywise the clown’s calling card in the horror novel. Luckily, these antics were by a local prankster, and not from the sewer-dwelling, child-eating, other-dimensional being.

The Lititz Police had fun with the red balloons, posting pictures to Facebook. The cops playfully wrote:

…we want the local prankster to know that we were completely terrified as we removed these balloons from the grates and we respectfully request they do not do that again.”

They ended the post with the famous line, “You’ll float, too.”

Red balloons also recently popped up in Sydney, Australia. These balloons contained promotional messaging, so they were clearly part of a marketing campaign. The balloons in Pennsylvania had no attached messages, though, making them that much creepier.

The original Lititz Police Facebook post received nation-wide attention. The police followed-up with a photo of a detective in a red clown wig analyzing the “evidence” for fingerprints. The Lititz Criminal Investigations Unit is on the case now, so no need to fear Pennywise!

Whether a local prank or a marketing campaign, the red balloons are creatively creepy! Let’s just hope they are not from Pennywise creeping around looking for his next victim. Make sure to check out this photoshoot of a 3-year-old as Pennywise for some more IT fun.
