We know Halloween must be close when the Underground shop at Historic Smithville, NJ starts sponsoring events! While we’ll be waiting until the beginning of October for Smithville’s Oktoberfest and the end of October for the Zombie Walk, horror and Halloween will roam free in September in Smithville. On September 15th, Undergound will be holding the Smithville Artwalk. Seventy-five artists will be featured, all with booths to purchase their art, and most have a horror theme to their work.
As if that weren’t enough, Mark Sceurman and Mark Moran from the cult magazine Weird NJ will be in attendance, and there will be a free concert by Full Blown Cherry. The Smithville Beard & Mustache Competition will also be held at the event, sponsored by the Smithville Barber Shoppe.
Weird NJ’s Mark Moran will even be a judge for the 2016 Smithville Beard & Mustache Competition. Another judge of the competition will be Karle, who is a morning radio host for the show Karle on Air for 103.7 WMGM Rocks. Other than being a radio show host, she is also a hairstylist, makeup artist, and model for Ladies of Metal.
Two prizes will be rewarded for the Beard and Mustache Competition. The Smithville Artwalk will be giving $100 for the “Fanciest Follicles” and a $150 gift basket from Underground for “Queen Whiskerina.”
So, whether you’re ready for some Halloween shopping, want to show off that fantastical work-of-art of a beard that you have, or just want to listen to some good music, make sure to put Smithville on your calendar for this September if you’re in the southern New Jersey area. It’s certainly a great way to start your Halloween celebrations, because, honestly, why doesn’t everyone start celebrating Halloween in September?
